Douglas Brannon - About the Author

It’s hard to say exactly where Douglas is from. His existence was mostly unknown to other humans, until a frigid February dawn in 1979 when he was found by a timber scout, not far from Chaleur Bay in northeastern Canada. He was wearing a beaver pelt and handmade leather shoes. The only other living creatures nearby were a female moose and her calf. His age was estimated at six-years-old. After a short time in Québec, he was adopted by a behavioral psychologist who wrote mystery novels and lived in Kalispell, Mt. When he arrived in Montana, Douglas didn’t speak at all, but within a year he was garrulous  and already following in his adopted mother’s footsteps, writing stories. Inside of the sheltered household the pair wrote feverishly and the environment was very competitive. Douglas’s work was never shared with anyone but his mother, or so he thought. In 1993 he happened upon an excerpt in a literary journal from a book that he had written that was published under a pseudonym that will not be revealed here. He eventually came to learn that his mother had published four books he had written under the same pen name and all were critical and financial successes, the last of which was translated into fourteen languages and produced as an offbeat musical in high school auditoriums in England for about three years. Not being well-versed in the ways of society, or law, Douglas was coerced into accepting a settlement that was far lower than what was deserved and gave up the right to claim the books that he wrote as his own. Appletown Nightmare should be the latest from an author who has spent his entire life writing nothing but fiction ;) Instead it is his legal debut.
